According to AT 513 248 a method for cleaning or renewing ballast of a track is known. The track-laying machine used for this purpose is supported by two crawler tracks in the trackless construction site. The gravel collected by a clearing device is cleaned in a screening plant and dropped in the working direction in front of the front crawler undercarriage in a first subset to form a gravel layer on which the two crawler tracks are moved while preserving the Erdplanums. EP 2 054 552 likewise describes a machine movable on crawler tracks for renewing a ballast bed. This object is achieved by a method and a machine of the generic type by the features stated in the characterizing part of the main claim or of claim 5. Such a method has the advantage that the formation of a refurbishment layer is possible without having to drive it before completion with a - leading to an uneven compression - chassis. The inventive method for stabilizing a Erdplanums 19 of the track begins - after the dismantling of the rails and sleepers of the track - with the removal of the ballast 9 based on the Räumkette 8 in a first working passage shown in Fig. 1. The machine 1 is thereby moved by means of the lowered crawler tracks 5 and 6 continuously on the uncovered by the upstream clearing 8 Erdplanum 19. The cleaned in the sieve 10 ballast and the resulting spoil is loaded via conveyor belts 23 in (not shown) located on the siding material cart for intermediate storage.

Gravel 27 can subsequently be dropped onto this remediation layer 26, which gravel was deposited as useful scrap in the ballast cleaning and which is now leveled to form a protective layer 28, as can be seen on the far right in FIG. Likewise, alternatively, the gravel 9 taken up by the broaching chain 8 and cleaned in the screening plant 10 can be thrown off the reorganization layer 26 after the intermediate storage to form a ballast bedding.
